Muslim Man Arrested For Fake Canvassing And Fraud In Burlington

A Hamilton man has been arrested in connection with a complaint of a suspicious person canvassing door to door in Burlington.

Halton police report that the suspect was allegedly asking for money in the Headon Forest area while falsely representing himself as a member of a local place of worship.

After an extensive search and the assistance of local residents, Mohammed Ismail, 25, was arrested and charged with fraud under $5,000, false pretenses under $5000 and trespassing at night.

It is suspected that Ismail fraudulently obtained funds from numerous residents in the Headon Forest area and throughout Burlington

He is described as a black man, tall with a thin build. He was wearing a white dress shirt and khaki shorts.

Residents in the Headon Forest area are also being requested to check their property for any related damages or discarded canvassing materials.
